As part of its mission to educate younger generations about the blues music genre, the Big Pines Blues Festival is bringing Mr. Blue Shoes to three Longview-area elementary schools this Thursday, April 6. These sessions will be great photo and video opportunities.
8:15 am – Parkway Elementary – 601 PT Parkway
10:00 am – Birch Elementary – 815 Birch
1:15 pm –Ware Elementary – 601 W. Garfield Avenue
According to his website, Mr. Blue Shoes is a one hour, highly interactive and engaging, multi-sensory live music experience that combines Blues music, oral history and life lessons, designed to inspire children of all ages about music and learning. Covering a span of 400 years, music, song, dance and storytelling immerse students in a historical journey through America’s cultural heritage.
Following a historical timeline, children learn about:
- West African culture
- Early 20th century history
- Famous Blues Musicians
- The Great Migration
- Blues music’s influence on American music
- Engagement and Learning
The Big Pines Blues Festival is part of an IRS-designated Section 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation. The Big Pines Blues Festival is made possible in part by a grant from the City of Longview.
