Pine Tree High Regional Art Winners

Pine Tree High art students won a total of 41 Regional Gold Medals and 7 Area Gold Medals at the recent Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) held at Whitehouse High School this past Saturday. The following 7 students will continue on to the State VASE held in San Antonio, TX on April 28th-29th:

Art I:
·Michaelon Daniels
·Harleigh Wright
·Petra Enloe
Art II:
·Gaelynn Prosser
·Abigail Roberts
Art III
·Sidney Andrade
·Isaiah Perry

There were over 800 entries this year in Region 7, and competition was fierce for state. As a note, there were only 23, 2-D artworks that advanced to state in Divisions I, II and III. Pine Tree accounted for a QUARTER of the representatives in these divisions- which speaks to the quality of the Art Department at Pine Tree High.

The mission of VASE is to recognize exemplary student achievement in the Visual Arts by providing art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve. VASE is the only art event of its kind in the nation. Students are provided the opportunity to bring artworks created in their art classes to their regional event where they are interviewed by a certified juror who evaluates their work based on a standard based rubric and their understanding of the art processes involved in the development of their artwork. A very select group of students continue on to the State Event, where students have the opportunity to win scholarships based on works they create on-site. Scholarships usually range from $100 to $1,000. Teachers are Wayne Gaddis, Elizabeth White and Mary Graham (department head).
