Pine Tree High School Students Win Gold at State Art Event

Pine Tree High School has four state art winners from the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) held in San Antonio April 23rd.  Vashayla Charvis, Mario Hernandez, Sidney Andrade and Andrea Oviedo all won a gold medal for their artwork. These four students entered artworks judged to be more proficient than  25,000+ other student artworks on a regional level.

VASE is the largest and most respected art competition not only in Texas, but in the nation. The Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) has sponsored the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) since 1994. VASE is the only art event of its kind in the nation. Students are provided the opportunity to bring artworks created in their art classes to their regional event where they are interviewed by a certified juror who evaluates their work based on a standard based rubric and their understanding of the art processes involved in the development of their artwork. Top artworks advance to the state level.

Congratulations to Vashayla, Mario, Sidney and Andrea for representing Pine Tree High so well!

PT STUDENTS COMPETE AT STATE TAME COMPETITION

Twelve students representing Pine Tree ISD competed at the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME) State Competition hosted by Texas A&M University San Antonio.

TAME is a nonprofit organization dedicated to offering opportunities and exposure to the field of engineering to students in Texas. They are supported by engineering firms and universities throughout the state making this event completely free to all students that attend. The competition centers around math and science skills and an engineering design challenge.

This year, TAME partnered with Boeing to create the engineering design challenge.  Students had 1 hour to create a prototype for a carbon composite fiber wrapping machine to build airplane fuselages.  In addition to testing and engineering design challenges, students worked with other scholars across the state, heard from a Boeing Engineer designing the craft that will one day take astronauts to Mars, and toured the university campus.

This was the first time for East Texas students to ever participate in this competition and they represented Pine Tree very well with 4 of the 12 students competing placing at the state level!

Congratulations to the following PT Students:

Marilyn Shen - 5th place 7th grade Math
Paige Reese
Diana Valadez
Bryce Willadson - 5th place 6th grade Science
Isaac Tesser
Joseph Cordova
Gabe Montoya
Connor Naseiro
Sterling Beakley - 3rd place Engineering Design Challenge
Jonathan Kent
Jonathan Garcia
Daniel Lopez - 5th place Comprehensive Science

A special thank you to our campus sponsors and organizers Michelle Randall, Dennis Powers, and Clay Nyvall.  These teachers were pivotal in communicating with students about the competition, assisting in travel and chaperoning, and most importantly encouraging our students to really shine at this competition.  Thank you so much for all you did to make this possible for our students!
