This month Pine Tree Intermediate will be embarking on its 2nd annual, all school book club called One School, One Book. Every family will receive a copy of the same book – Beverly Cleary's The Mouse and the Motorcycle - and will be asked to read it at home over the month of March and April. The Pine Tree Curriculum Department sponsored this wonderful event and provided books for all 750 students.
Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader, but it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. Through the One School, One Book program, we aim to build a community of readers at our school. Everyone - students, parents, teachers, even support staff - will be participating, and we can all reap the many benefits.
All 3rd and 4th graders will receive their copy of The Mouse and the Motorcycle on Monday, March 21st with a tailored reading schedule so they can keep up at home. Each family will be asked to read a chapter a night – about 15 minutes per night – from March 21st- April 5th.
In school, the students will be invited to answer daily trivia questions in their reading class to encourage and reward attentive listening. In art class, there will be various projects which discuss or explore the book. Our students will decorate the hallways and go on a daily scavenger hunt for Ralph located around the school. Throughout the month, everyone will be talking about The Mouse and the Motorcycle!
