Four PTHS Students Selected to TMEA All-State Band

Pine Tree High School placed 4 students in the TMEA All-State Band.

Korbin Davis, Gage Ellis, Cristian Najera, and Jerry Zhang were all selected as first chairs at the area competition in Richardson January 9.

This is the most students in Pine Tree school history that have been selected to the All-State Band.  Pine Tree placed more in the All-State Band in any other district competitors.

"We are extremely proud of our students", said Director of Fine Arts Mark Melton.

Jerry Zhang, a second year All State member, is a senior at PTHS.  "For Jerry to make All State two years in a row, speaks of his talent, dedication and work ethic," stated Melton.

Cristian Najera and Gage Ellis, both placed first chair in 5A and 6A trumpets.

Korbin Davis, changed to contra bass clarinet in November, and his perseverance paid off with the selection.

Bobby Counts and Jonathan Garcia were selected as 1st alternates.

Don Lawler, a long time music educator in East Texas band programs, said," It is a high accomplishment to both the PTISD Directors and students to place four students in the All-State Band."

Lawler is former band director at Pine Tree and Spring Hill.  He retired in 1995 and is currently the UIL Region Music Executive Secretary.  TMEA and UL provide music competitions for all band, choir, and orchestra students in Texas.

Pine Tree ISD is proud of all of these students.  These students will be recognized at the PTISD monthly board meeting on February 8.
