Grace Garcia, junior and Kayley McMullen, freshman, both won a gold medal for their artwork.
The other Pine Tree High students in attendance at the state event were Kortni Horne, sophomore and Jordan Mosley, junior.
These four students entered artworks judged to be more proficient than 25,000+ other student artworks on a regional level.
VASE is the largest and most respected art competition not only in Texas, but in the nation. The Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) has sponsored the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) since 1994. VASE is the only art event of its kind in the nation. Students are provided the opportunity to bring artworks created in their art classes to their regional event where they are interviewed by a certified juror who evaluates their work based on a standard based rubric and their understanding of the art processes involved in the development of their artwork. Top artworks advance to the state level.
At the state event, students had the opportunity to take art classes, view winning student artwork on exhibit, visit with college recruiters and tour local area museums.
The Pine Tree teachers in attendance were Mary Graham, Mary Squire and Elizabeth White.
