Pine Tree ISD Earns State's Highest Fiscal Accountability Rating

Pine Tree ISD officials announced that the district received a rating of "P" for "Passed" under Texas' School FIRST financial accountability rating system.  The "Passed" rating is the state's highest, demonstrating the quality of Pine Tree ISD's financial management and reporting system.

"We are very pleased with Pine Tree ISD's School FIRST rating, said Pine Tree ISD Superintendent Dr. TJ Farler.  This rating shows that our district is making the most of our taxpayers' dollars.  This rating shows that Pine Tree schools are accountable not only for student learning, but also for achieving these results cost-effectively and efficiently."

This is the 13th year of School FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas), a financial accountability system for Texas school districts developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76th Texas Legislature in 1999.

The Texas Education Agency converted Schools FIRST to a two-tier rating system of either "P" for "Pass or "F" for "Substandard Achievement" for the 2014-2015 rating year.  Prior to the 2014-2015 rating year, the Schools FIRST accountability rating system assigned one of four financial accountability ratings to Texas school districts, with the highest being "Superior Achievement," followed by "Above-Standard Achievement, "Standard Achievement" and Substandard Achievement."

Pine Tree Student Wins 2nd Place at 2016 Congressional Art Competition

Ethan Sellers, sophomore at Pine Tree High School, won 2nd place at the Congressional Art Competition in Nacogdoches on December 6.

Ethan created a linoleum print titled “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” that will be displayed for a year in U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert’s office in the capitol building in Washington D.C.

At the awards ceremony at SFA, one of the judges, Christopher Talbot, associate professor at SFA, had this to say about Ethan’s artwork:

“You can see references to art history and things that have gone before us in art. It’s very difficult as artists to make something truly unique. We’re always building upon traditions from the past. We can definitely see in this work some references to some very well known art, but from a very unique viewpoint. This is a linoleum cut, and that’s not an easy thing to do at this level of craft and skill.”

The annual art competition is for all US Representatives. First place artwork from students around the country is displayed in the Capitol Building as part of a student art show for the year. The second place artwork is displayed in the US Representative’s office.

Ethan competed against students from other high schools in the First Congressional District of Texas, grades 9-12.

Pine Tree Junior High Participates in National Mix It Up Day

Students at Pine Tree Junior High will participate in the National Mix It Up Day on Tuesday, October 27 during their lunch periods.

On this day students will move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch.  It is a simple act with profound implications.

Studies have shown that interactions across group lines can help reduce prejudice.  When students interact with those who are different from them, biases and misperceptions can fall away.

National Mix It Up is sponsored by Teaching Tolerance.  Founded in 1991 by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Teaching Tolerance is dedicated to reducing prejudice, improving intergroup relations and supporting equitable school experiences for our nation's children.

PTISD TRUSTEE PARTICIPATES IN LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

(Austin) –Patrick Noon, trustee from Pine Tree ISD joined 34 other school board members from across Texas October 1-3 at the kickoff session of the Leadership TASB class of 2016. Selected by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), the group is participating in a yearlong education leadership study program.

These trustees represent school districts of all sizes, with student populations of 1,000 to 159,000, and reflect a similar range of property wealth.

Participants who complete all required elements of the study will graduate next year by earning Master Trustee status. This is the highest designation recognized by TASB.
Meeting in conjunction with the Texas Association of School Administrators/TASB convention in Austin, the trustees heard featured speaker Peter DeLisle, Ph.D. DeLisle, a recognized authority on leadership training, focused on characteristics of effective leadership and team building. Board members also received training at convention sessions and attended the TASB Delegate Assembly, the Association’s annual business meeting.

Other Leadership TASB sessions are scheduled for Dallas, November 19-21; Corpus Christi, February 25-27; Amarillo, March 31-April 2; and Forth Worth, June 30-July 2. Each session has a unique theme that builds on the previous session and features nationally recognized experts in the fields of leadership development and education. Teams also work throughout the year on extended learning assignments between meetings. Created in 1993, Leadership TASB has more than 800 graduates to date.

TASB is a voluntary, nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.2 million public school students.
