Pine Tree's Arthur Dixon selected Boys State Governor

Pine Tree High School student Arthur Dixon was recently selected as the first Longview
student to be elected governor at this year's Boys State in Austin.

Dixon along with five other East Texas boys and two American Legion members participated in the week long conference which included mock political elections and listening to guest speakers.

As part of the educational program, which is sponsored by the American Legion, male high school students who have just finished their junior year and rank in the top 10 percent of their class, were nominated by teachers and administrators.

Dixon, 17, became the first Longview student to be elected to the governor position, which allows him a return trip to preside over the general assembly.

"It was a humbling experience to meet these guys who are at the top of their class and then have them support me for governor," Dixon said.

Pine Tree Students Collaborate on Multi-Media Art Project

Pine Tree students have collaborated on a multi—media art project involving students from Ms. Christy Adair’ 3rd grade class, Ms. Mary Squier’s High School Digital Media and Animation Class and Ms. Amy Brown ‘s High School Art class.

The 3rd grade students designed monsters and wrote stories about them with Mrs. Adair.  The high school students then took those monsters and created mini-sculptures of them.

The Digital Media students designed packaging for the monsters and the high school art students under the direction of Ms. Brown completed the packaging, creating something that looks like it came from the toy store. The Digital Media students made short videos using the stories the kids wrote.

The multi-media art project will be presented  June 2 at 2:oo p.m. at the PT Intermediate School.
