Longview News Journal: Turf goes down at new Pine Tree sports stadium as deadline nears

Turf goes down at new Pine Tree sports stadium as deadline nears - Longview News-Journal: Local News

Crews have installed turf at the new Pine Tree ISD sports complex, drawing the facility closer to meeting its August deadline for completion.

Workers with Hellas Construction unfurled 24,000 square yards of sod on the field just off East Harrison Road.  School spokeswoman Vickie Echols said the stadium remains on schedule to be open for the 2013-14 school year.

The athletic complex is part of a $29.9 million bond approved by a narrow margin of voters in 2011 that includes a new field house, press box, track and field surfaces, land acquisition for the complex and renovations at other facilities in the district.  The guaranteed maximum price for the projects is $23.9 million, approved by the board in September.

Austin State University with a Doctorate of Education.

Lara comes to Pine Tree with experience as both a teacher and administrator in Hallsville, Marshall, Tyler and Waskom ISD.  She has also served as adjunct faculty in the Department of Teacher Education with East Texas Baptist University.

"I am genuinely honored to serve the children and community of Pine Tree!” said Cavin.  “In researching information about the campus and district, one recurring theme continually comes to the forefront...the emphasis on people.  I look forward to being a part of this progressive district that is focused on deepening the roots of collaboration and innovative programs to  prepare future-ready students."
